Amaztype

Cool flash application! I discovered through my friend this cute thing called Amaztype which apparently, is a typographic book search application using Amazon web services (actually music, videos and DVDs are also applicable). Design and created by Keita Kitamura & Yugo Nakamura.

How does it works? You just type in a word in the 'Search Word' box and Waaa la! The result will appear in the form of your search word... and i mean literally. In my case, i typed Jen and books title associated with that word appears in the form of.... well..... Jen :P Superbly impressive and fun to play with - especially the search result part where books images pop up here there everywhere. Then when you put your cursor over a particular book and click it, the book enlarges and brief details of the book pops out.

This is an example of what Manovich said as "phenomenon of Flash graphics on the Web" in his article Generation Flash.

Convergence

It all begins with Brad Pitt. As i was tuning in to MTV, there he was... in monochrome. As usual, he looked as gorgeous as ever - which was the main reason that attracted me to stay glued to the TV for the moment. The fact that the clip he was featured in is in black and white and not coloured made it all more.. enticing. So, as i was admiring his beauty (and barely noticing what he was saying) then Tom hanks appeared. That was the time when i snapped out of Cloud 9 :D not to say that he was not charming or anything.. i mean everybody loves Tom Hanks. So anyway, the fact that 2 prominent celebrities appeared consecutively in a 30 seconds video is very eye-catching. As both of them said something about poverty and children, one thing clear at the end of the video clip was www.one.org. I supposed at this technology age, all we ever needed is that one address to feed our curiosity - which led to me going to my desktop and do exactly that.

It turns out that ONE is a campaign to fight the emergency of global AIDS and extreme poverty. Not only that, Brad Pitt and Tom Hanks weren't the only celebrities contributing to this campaign ..aa......interesting. Anywayz let's not get sidetracked. So there i was peeking here and there on the website and i decided to sign up for some declaration thingy. Sort of like a petition i supposed. Asides from signing your name online, you can also get information on how to contribute like buying the wristband to raise fund and help out during the campaign at specific time and location or just sending cheque in the name of the project. Besides that, anyone can also help promote the project by hosting the ONE banner on their blogs, websites and such.

SO.... as you can see this is how convergence is. Firstly there were Brad Pitt and Tom Hanks on TV(which is meant to attract publics' attention), then it led going Internet for finding out what Brad and Tom were doing on TV together, followed by sending emails to spread the word or get updates on the campaign. The publics can also get detail on helping to promote through blogs and websites by hosting banners. By doing that, more people will sign up and contribute in whichever they can, hence eventually realise their goal. In short Convergence:(collaboration of)TV + Internet = towards achieving a mutual goal.

p/s: side publicity here... do visit the ONE website and read all about it. For those who has a soft spot for Brad Pitt, do download him too... for safekeeping :P
